The crowd cheered wildly when Monica Rial (the klutzy maid Mey-Rin) came out dressed as her character in a full maid outfit and oversized glasses.īut the biggest cheers when Sinclair introduced the show’s stars: Brina Palencia (13-year old earl Ciel Phantomhive) and J. Bruce Elliott (the diminutive house steward Tanaka) and Jason Liebricht (the gardener Finnian) came up next. Sinclair then introduced the actors one by one, beginning with Lydia Mackay (who played the noble Madam Red) and Daniel Frederick (her butler Grell), who were, according to Sinclair, at their first-ever convention. Dropping in and out of Barclay’s gruff English accent, he greeted the cheering crowd and said that this was the largest collection of the show’s cast members there had ever been on stage. Ian Sinclair, who directed the dub and also voiced the incompetent cook Barclay, came out and served as emcee. After everyone was finally seated and with the room at near-capacity, the panel got underway. The crowd was so huge that at one point, a con staff member came up onstage and implored audience members to raise their hands if there was an empty seat or two next to them. Held in the ballroom area of the Lansing Center (which hosted the convention), the panel started about a half hour behind schedule on account of the enormous amount of people filing in. The big get this year? Nearly 5 years after it was first announced, the entire main cast of Funimation‘s dub for the famed historical anime Black Butler was reunited on stage on Saturday, March 21, 2015. Held in Lansing, Michigan, ShutoCon isn’t exactly the largest of conventions, but it makes up for its attendance and size with interesting, varied panels and a few big-name guests.
